Mathematics
At Bayside Academy, we deliver a high‑quality, well‑structured mathematics curriculum that enables all pupils to develop confidence, fluency and a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts. Learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils can make meaningful connections and apply their knowledge to real‑life situations.
Our curriculum is organised into clear units of learning for each year group. These units are broken down into small, sequential steps that are taught through daily lessons. This step‑by‑step approach ensures that strong foundations of knowledge and understanding are built cumulatively over time.
We follow a daily Maths programme aligned with White Rose, which supports an investigative and problem‑solving style of teaching. This approach is rooted in the principles of mastery, ensuring that every pupil is given the opportunity to develop secure and lasting understanding. Concepts are introduced using the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach, enabling pupils to move confidently from hands‑on exploration to visual representation and finally to abstract methods.
Throughout their learning, pupils are encouraged to explain their thinking, justify their answers and explore a range of strategies. We use manipulatives, bar models, diagrams and formal written methods to support this rich mathematical reasoning.
Our goal is to develop pupils who are resilient, curious and confident mathematicians—well‑equipped with the skills they need for future learning and everyday life.
