Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education
At Bayside Academy, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is a vital part of our curriculum. It supports pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work in modern Britain. We are committed to providing a PSHE curriculum that promotes emotional wellbeing, positive relationships and responsible citizenship.
We follow the Coram SCARF programme, a comprehensive, fully-sequenced scheme that supports pupils’ development in the key themes of:
Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. These values run through every lesson and reflect our commitment to equipping pupils with the personal qualities they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
Our Approach
PSHE is taught through weekly lessons from Reception to Year 6. The SCARF curriculum provides a clear progression of learning across the following areas:
- Me and My Relationships
- Valuing Difference
- Keeping Myself Safe
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Being My Best
- Growing and Changing (including statutory Relationships and Health Education)
Lessons are interactive, inclusive and designed to help pupils explore ideas, share opinions and develop confidence in discussing personal and social issues. The SCARF programme also supports whole‑school wellbeing through assemblies, themed weeks and resources that promote positive behaviour and emotional health.
